This book is a very well written process of how Bryan Stevenson spent many many years attempting to bring justice to those of color with an emphasis on youth and those on death row. He really shows deep compassion and understanding for these inmates and works through The Equal Justice Initiative to bring them justice. The introduction of the book mentions the number of people who are wrongly convicted and sentenced to death and eventually executed to be later proved innocent. That right there is the imperfection that Stevenson was trying to make right...or as right as possible.
This is a great read and very well written. Once I got this book, I had a really hard time putting it down. You really get to see the struggle of the poor and the blacks in the south and it is really an eye opening book.
If you are a fan of The Merchant of Venice then this is a book that I would highly recommend. This book, as you could probably tell by the title, is mostly focused on the character Shylock and we really get to know him well in this book. I have never read any of the books in Hogarth Shakespeare series, so to be honest, I was not 100% sure what to expect. I was not disappointed.
Jacobson did a great job in showing who Shylock really is. He made this clear with the tender and elegant conversations he showed between Shylock and his dead wife.
Jacobson turned the once tragedy and comedy play that was once written, into a book with a huge emphasis on comedy. I feel like this gives us a look into Jacobson and his understanding of Shakespeare and really his love for this type of literature.
I am very interested in reading more books in this series. I wish I had heard of it earlier so that I could have gotten in the game with everyone else, but I am happy I found this book!
This is a really nice flashlight and if you are looking for something high quality and heavy duty like I was, then you are going to absolutely love this one. You can use it for many tasks, but we plan on keeping this one at camp for those late night walks. You get the carrying case, the flash light, a battery charger, an 18650 rechargeable battery, and the AAA battery adapter. You can use three different types of batteries with this flashlight so that makes it super convenient. As I was taking the flashlight out of the box I noticed that it was very heavy and durable feeling so that was great. I also noticed that it had several light modes and man is this thing extremely bright. All you have to do is push the power button it changes between the 5 modes. You can also zoom the light too! Definitely a high quality flashlight that will get a lot of love in our home!
