Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow

I have to say that this is definitely one of the most powerful books that I have ever read. Charlotte...the main character in this book wakes up in a psychiatric hospital after trying to commit suicide...honestly her past would make anyone want to disappear. She has been through so many critical events such as being homeless, abuse, and being raped. She self medicated her self with drugs and alcohol. Charlies found a way to cope: cutting.

Charlie really starts out by having nobody, but in the end she finds people that she can turn to. People to rely on. This book mad me laugh, cry, smile, cry some more, and realize that you really need to have hope in your life and good people to fall on if need be.

I got this book and just let it sit for a few days...I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to read it but now I recommend this book to all my book buddies. It is intense and will tear your heart wide open. It is written in a way that you can feel how Charlie feels and it can be very overwhelming. Hearing her story from her point of view is incredible.

The Illustrated Book of Sayings by Ella Frances Sanders

The Illustrated Book of Sayings is such a neat little book. It explores both language and the interpretation of each quote and can really brighten your day. Each day I pick it up and read one of the cute and witty quotes that make you really think about the hidden meaning behind some of the things that we say and the illustrations in this book also cute and well done.

Some of my favorite quotes from the book:

"Even monkeys fall from trees"

This quote comes from the Japanese culture and is saying that everyone makes mistakes.

"He's ripping clouds with his nose"

This Serbian quote is saying that someone is stuck up and/or conceited.

"While swimming, drink water"

This quote from Indonesia talks about multitasking and is similar to the American quote "to kill two birds with one stone."

This book is one that I would recommend everyone have on their bookshelf. Definitely a fun and laid back read and you will actually learn some fun facts while reading it!
